Another large-scale data center development could be coming to Finland.
Local press, including Yle, reports the Isojoki municipal government is selling a plot of approximately 180 hectares near the Pettenkangas industrial area for €10 million ($11.6m) for a planned data center project.
A firm known as Isojoki Data Center Oy, reportedly backed by a Nordic real estate development company, is leading the project.
Few details are available, but construction could start as soon as September 2026.
Isojoki is a municipality of Finland. It is part of the South Ostrobothnia region on the western side of the country. The Pettenkangas industrial area is set to be home to a bioterminal that supports energy wood harvesting and wood chip entrepreneurship.
Most of Finland’s data centers are located in the country’s capital, Helsinki. Established operators, including the likes of Verne, Equinix, and atNorth, have a presence in Finland, while newer operators such as Scale42, Polarnode, FCDC, Arcem, and Hyperco are planning multiple developments totaling gigawatts of capacity across the country. International operators, including QTS and DayOne, are also looking to develop in Finland.
Earlier this month, the Forssa City Council approved the Ratasmäki and Rytökallio zoning plans that would allow QTS to develop a campus outside Forssa. The 150-hectare site could total 700,000 sqm (7.53 million sq ft).
Hyperco, which is developing a data center campus in Kouvola set to serve TikTok owner ByteDance, has submitted an environmental impact assessment program to the South-Eastern Finland Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY) for the project. Set to be developed in Hiivuri, the campus will total 100MW initially.
