UK power solutions provider AVK has partnered with Landmark Power Holdings (LMPH), a UK-based clean power generation firm, to develop behind-the-meter (BTM) power solutions tailored for data centers across the UK and Europe.
The two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the integration of carbon capture technology with Rolls-Royce’s mtu gas reciprocating engines. It builds on an ongoing collaboration between Landmark, Asco, a carbon capture technology firm, and Rolls-Royce, which integrates carbon capture with mtu gas reciprocating engines.
Under the three-year agreement, with an option to extend, AVK will lead the design, planning, and delivery of advanced microgrid systems that combine Rolls-Royce’s mtu gas engines with Asco’s carbon capture technology. The systems will be implemented using Landmark’s Flexpower Plus technology, which it claims can convert conventional gas-fired generation into low-carbon, distributed power.
AVK’s role will include front-end EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) services, while LMPH will provide operational expertise.
“This strategic agreement represents a major step in AVK’s commitment to delivering sustainable power solutions for the rapidly growing data center industry,” said Ben Pritchard, CEO of AVK-SEG. “By combining our engineering and delivery expertise with Landmark’s Flexpower Plus, Asco’s carbon capture, and Rolls-Royce’s proven mtu engine technology, we’re establishing a new pathway to reliable, low-carbon energy for critical digital infrastructure.”
The technology will be rolled out across four projects in the UK. These include a 30MW consented site in Mill Hill, County Durham, a 20MW BTM development in Dagenham, East London, and multiple Kennedy Wilson-owned sites at Heathrow, Greater London, and Iver, Buckinghamshire, with a combined potential capacity of up to 300MW.
“Our Flexpower Plus technology has already proven its capability at scale, and this partnership with AVK allows us to extend that performance to the data center sector. Together, we’re advancing a practical route to decarbonization without compromising on resilience,” said Mick Avison, founder and CEO of LMPH.
The companies are also considering expansion across Europe, with the EU, Norway, and Iceland earmarked as potential destinations.
AVK signed its first microgrid agreement with a data center provider in Ireland last year as part of a broader cooperation agreement with European renewable energy developer Wärtsilä.
Under the agreement, AVK will design and install on-site natural gas power generation, with Wärtsilä providing the engineered equipment and maintenance support.
