Spain’s military is to build a new data center project in Soria.
The Spanish Ministry of Defense has launched the Numant-IA project, a new generation data center that will combine private cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity capabilities, and artificial intelligence to strengthen the country’s technological and data capacity.
The €70 million ($82m) project will be built on a 37,000-square-meter (398,264 sq ft) plot of land provided by the Soria City Council in the industrial park of Valcorba. The start of operations is scheduled for the beginning of 2028.
The new technology hub will provide the Spanish Armed Forces with a secure and resilient environment to house critical data, guaranteeing high availability, operational continuity, and protection of sensitive information. Its infrastructure will be part of an independent private cloud, key to reducing external dependencies and strengthening digital sovereignty in the field of defense.
The Ministry of Defense expects Numant-IA to act as an Advanced Technology Capabilities Center, with applications such as secure processing of classified data for operations and logistics, advanced analytics with AI, support for national security through early threat detection, as well as functioning as a dual platform combining the military function with R&D projects and civilian applications.
Numant-IA is part of the institutional decentralization strategy being carried out by the Government, by installing critical infrastructure in provinces with demographic challenges, such as Soria.
