Data center and cryptomine firm IREN (also known as Iris Energy) this week announced it had doubled its AI cloud capacity to 23,000 GPUs.
The company procured 7,100 Nvidia B300 and 4,200 Nvidia B200 GPUs, in addition to 1,100 AMD MI350Xs, in order to support the expansion. The company said the addition of AMD hardware alongside further Nvidia GPUs broadens its offering and addressable market.
The newly acquired processors cost $674 million and are scheduled for staged delivery at IREN’s Prince George campus in British Columbia, Canada, in the coming months. Construction is currently underway at the site on a 10MW (IT load) liquid-cooled installation that will be capable of supporting more than 4,500 GB300s.
“As global demand for compute accelerates, customers are increasingly seeking partners who can deliver scale quickly,” said Daniel Roberts, co-founder and co-CEO of IREN.
“Doubling our fleet to more than 23,000 GPUs in just a few months highlights the strength of our vertically integrated platform and our ability to meet urgent, long-term demand. The shift toward pre-contracting ahead of delivery provides further momentum for the growth of our AI Cloud business.”
The news comes less than a month after IREN announced it had secured 1,200 air-cooled Nvidia B300s and 1,200 liquid-cooled GB300s for approximately $168 million. In total, IREN now owns 1,900s H100 and H200s, 19,100 B200s and B300s, 1,200 GB300s, and 1,100 AMD MI350Xs.
The company currently has six data centers across North America, with a total capacity of 2,910MW.
The company is in the midst of a pivot away from cryptomining towards its AI cloud business. While it is still mining Bitcoin, the firm is winding down its mining operations and diverting cash flow to its AI business.
