On 23 September, Tuesday, OpenAI, Oracle and SoftBank announced their intention of developing five new USA-based AI data center sites as part of Stargate programme
Nasdaq-listed AI chip maker Nvidia said on 22 September, Monday, that it will gradually invest 100 billion US Dollars in OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT. The companies aim to develop data centres of of at least 10 gigawatt thar will support the next generation of AI models training with the implementation of Nvidia products (press release).
OpenAI and Nvidia will finalise the first gigawatt of such partnership in the coming weeks ahead of implementing it on Vera Rubin platform in 2H26.
This project is consistent with the partnerships that OpenAI and Nvidia are already carrying on with Microsoft, Oracle, SoftBank, and Stargate (see here a previous post by BeBeez). On 23 September, Tuesday, OpenAI, Oracle and SoftBank said that they are going to develop five new US-based AI data centres AI as part of Stargate programme (press release). These sites, OpenAI asset in Abilene (Texas) and the ongoing projects with CoreWeave will allow Stargate to have a planned capability in the region of 7 GW while the next three years investments will be worth 400 billion, in line with the 2025 targets of 500 billion and 10 GW that the firm announced in January 2025.
Jensen Huang, the founder and ceo of Nvidia, said: “Nvidia and OpenAI have been supporting each other for the last ten years. Such collaboration dates to the first DGX supercomputer and continued with ChatGPT. This investment and infrastructure partnership marks the next step: the deployment of 10 gigawatts to power the next era of artificial intelligence”.
Sam Altman, the co-founder and ceo of OpenAI, added: “It all starts with computing. The computing infrastructure will be the basis for the future economy, and we will use what we are building with Nvidia both to create new innovations in artificial intelligence and to enable people and businesses to benefit from it on a large scale.”.
Greg Brockman, co-founder and chairman of OpenAI, concluded: “We have been working closely with NVIDIA since the early days of OpenAI,” he said “We have used their platform to create artificial intelligence systems used by hundreds of millions of people every day. We are excited to deploy 10 gigawatts of computing power with NVIDIA to push the boundaries of artificial intelligence and make the benefits of this technology accessible to everyone”.
OpenAI has more than 700 million weekly active users. In May 2025, the company announced the acquisition of US io Products from the scaleup founder Jony Ive (Apple veteran and Iphone developer) that is now the buyer’s creative director (see here a previous post by BeBeez). Market rumours say that thhe swap shares deal was worth 6.5 billion on the ground of a 300 billion enterprise value for OpenAI. In April 2025, the company that Altman co-founded secured a 40 billion investment round that Japanese Softbank subscribed on the ground of a 300 billion enterprise value of the target (see here a previous post by BeBeez).
