Helsinki-based technology company Wolt has announced partnerships with EIT Food and the European Federation of Food Banks (FEBA) aimed at improving sustainability and food security across its European operations. Wolt operates a platform connecting consumers with restaurants, grocery stores, and other local sellers, facilitating ordering and delivery services in more than 30 countries. The company’s collaboration with EIT Food and FEBA reflects a broader effort to address systemic challenges in the food sector, including waste reduction, sustainable packaging, and equitable access to food.
Through its work with EIT Food, Wolt will explore methods to minimize food waste and implement more sustainable packaging solutions within its platform. EIT Food, funded by the European Union, engages a diverse range of stakeholders—from startups and research institutions to large corporations and consumers—to drive innovation, education, and systemic improvements across the food value chain. By connecting technology-driven delivery platforms with food system research and innovation, the partnership seeks to identify practical interventions that can reduce environmental impact while supporting a more resilient and efficient supply chain.

In parallel, Wolt has partnered with FEBA, a non-profit organization that coordinates a network of over 30 national food banks across Europe. FEBA’s mission is to collect surplus food from businesses and redistribute it to vulnerable populations, while supporting longer-term strategies to combat hunger and food insecurity. Through this collaboration, Wolt aims to enhance its existing efforts to reduce food waste, strengthen emergency preparedness in food supply chains, and explore initiatives such as virtual food bank models that could make food support more efficient and responsive. The partnership also seeks to provide Wolt’s customers with opportunities to engage with food donation programs, integrating social impact into everyday ordering processes.

Nearly 38 million people in the European Union experience moderate to severe food insecurity, while FEBA and its member organizations currently reach over 12 million people each year. By combining Wolt’s platform capabilities with FEBA’s operational expertise and reach, the initiative aims to create measurable improvements in food distribution and waste reduction, moving beyond short-term charitable efforts toward systemic solutions.
Together, the partnerships illustrate an approach that blends technology, collaboration, and social responsibility. Rather than serving commercial expansion, these initiatives focus on reducing environmental impact, improving access to food for vulnerable populations, and fostering a more sustainable and equitable food ecosystem.
