London’s Unmind raises over €30 million to scale ethical AI for workplace mental health

Unmind, a British workplace mental health startup, has raised €30.6 million in a Series C funding round to further scale its AI-powered platform designed to support employee mental health.

The investment was led by TELUS Global Ventures, with continued backing from Project A, Felix Capital, and Sapphire Ventures.

Dr Nick Taylor, CEO and Co-founder of Unmind, said: “AI – when applied with clinical rigour, ethical guardrails, and a human foundation – is a once-in-a-generation breakthrough in mental healthcare. We’re combining scientific expertise with cutting-edge tech to help millions of people feel better, do better, and stay well.”

Founded in 2016, Unmind provides a solution for organisational wellbeing, combining AI support, therapy, coaching, leadership training and strategic consulting in one platform. At the heart of the company’s recent innovations is Nova, an AI mental health agent that reportedly delivers instant, personalised support to employees globally.

Nova has seen a 92% increase in usage over the past six months, with retention rates reportedly three times higher than the industry average.

Nova is central to Unmind’s approach, offering stigma-free, always-available assistance and seamlessly connecting users to human support when needed.

“Nova offered advice, understanding and expressed sympathy in a genuine and caring way. Thanks to Nova I now feel I can reach out for help; that I’m not alone and my feelings matter,” said a Nova user.

This latest funding round comes at a time when mental health support is transitioning from an HR initiative to a boardroom priority. According to the World Health Organization, 12 billion working days are lost annually to depression and anxiety, while McKinsey estimates a €875 billion productivity loss linked to mental ill-health.

The funding will be used to accelerate global expansion, with a particular focus on the United States.

To spearhead this effort, Unmind has appointed Laura Moniz de Aragao, formerly of BetterUp, as its new Chief Revenue Officer. She brings with her experience in leading commercial teams across the US and EMEA, and will lead Unmind’s go-to-market strategy and strengthen strategic partnerships, including those with TELUS Health.

Unmind’s platform is engineered to draw a direct correlation between employee mental health and business performance. According to the company, users have experienced a 10–15% productivity boost following 4–7 therapy sessions, with returns on investment as high as €11k per employee per year for tools addressing sleep and low mood.

A recent case study with a multinational consumer goods firm showed a 16% stress reduction among high-stress employees, generating a €876k productivity uplift and delivering a 3.49x ROI.

The company underscores that its technology complements rather than replaces human care. It aims to proactively support whole organisations, with a foundation built on ethical AI practices and clinical validation.
