NTT Data has acquired land in seven global markets for a planned data center buildout of almost 1GW of capacity.
The land acquisitions have occurred over the past six months and span locations in North America, Europe, and the APAC regions.
North America
In Hillsboro, Oregon, NTT Data has acquired land with plans to bring an additional 216MW of IT capacity. This will bring the company’s total capacity in the Hillsboro market to 354MW.
In Phoenix, Arizona, NTT Data has acquired 174 acres in Mesa with plans to develop a multi-data center campus. In total, the company aims to develop seven data centers with a capacity of 324MW. The first data center is expected to open in FY2028.
NTT has an existing campus in Phoenix which spans 102 acres and supports 240MW of capacity. The new development will bring the company’s capacity in the state to just under 600MW.
Europe
In Europe, NTT is entering a new market: Milan, Italy. Here, the company has acquired 53 acres of land and plans to develop a 128MW data center.
The company has also purchased land in Frankfurt, Germany, where it already has a presence. NTT aims to develop its fifth data center in the area, and bring an additional 80MW of IT capacity to the area.
Finally, NTT Data has bought 26.3 acres of land for a new London, UK, site, which will be its eighth data center in the market. The company has further acquired the underlying freehold at its existing London data centers.
APAC
NTT Data’s acquisitions in APAC focus on Japan, having acquired land in both Tochigi and Osaka.
Tochigi is a new market for the company. NTT has acquired 32 acres in the Tochigi Inter Industrial Park near Tokyo. Plans include two high-capacity data centers totaling approximately 100MW.
In Osaka, NTT has acquired eight acres with plans for two data centers with a total capacity of 36MW. This will bring NTT Data’s total data center count in the Osaka region to three facilities with a total capacity of approximately 70MW.
“By bringing new capacity to high-growth regions, we’re building the foundation enterprises need to innovate, scale, and lead confidently in an AI-driven economy,” said Doug Adams, CEO and president, Global Data Centers, NTT DATA. “With the backing of our parent company, we are uniquely positioned to be able to invest and build proactively, ahead of market demand, delivering the resilient, sustainable infrastructure our clients need to succeed, while staying ahead of industry shifts.”
“Our land acquisitions are about more than growth; they’re about shaping the future of digital infrastructure on a global scale,” added Adams. “As the digital landscape evolves at unprecedented speed, NTT Global Data Centers is investing boldly to ensure our customers are ready to lead in an increasingly connected and dynamic world.”
The land acquisitions follow NTT Data’s commitment in January 2025 to spend more than $10 billion on developing its data center business through to 2027. Other recently announced data center projects include a 290MW facility in Johor, Malaysia, and a 400MW AI data center in Hyderabad, India.
Earlier this month, NTT revealed plans to take NTT Data private in a 2.37 trillion yen ($16.4 billion) deal.
