Stockolm-based Lovable has secured an angel investment of approximately €91K (1 MSEK) from Flat Capital AB, as part of its €14.3 million funding round led by Creandum. The Swedish startup aims to simplify software development through its AI platform, allowing users to create websites, apps, and other digital products without any technical knowledge. The company has experienced strong early growth, with increasing user numbers and revenue. The funds from this investment will be used to scale operations, improve the platform, and continue expanding its user base, further supporting Lovable’s mission to make digital product creation accessible to a wider audience.
Lovable was founded in 2023 by the Swedish entrepreneurs Anton Osika and Fabian Hedin with the aim of enabling anyone to build and launch digital products. The company has had a flying start with record growth both in terms of number of users and turnover.
Lovable, formerly known as GPT Engineer, is a cutting-edge platform designed to simplify the process of building websites, web apps, and interactive prototypes through natural conversation. Founded in late 2023, Lovable evolved from GPT Engineer, an open-source project launched in mid-2023 to explore AI’s potential in software development. The project quickly gained traction, becoming the fastest-growing code repository on GitHub with over 50,000 stars.
Lovable expands on this foundation by offering a commercial web version, gptengineer.app, now rebranded to Lovable, making it accessible to non-technical users. The platform empowers anyone—whether a beginner or experienced developer—to create and deploy software without needing to write code. Through a seamless chat interface, users can interact with the platform to design and launch digital products, turning complex development tasks into simple, intuitive conversations.
While the commercial version of Lovable aims to democratize software creation, the original GPT Engineer open-source tool remains active on GitHub for developers to explore and experiment with AI-assisted software development. Lovable continues the legacy of GPT Engineer, now with an expanded mission to make software creation an enjoyable and accessible experience for all.
Two months ago, Lovable announced its €14.3 million pre-Series A funding round led by Creandum, with support from prominent angel investors such as Charlie Songhurst (Meta), Adam D’Angelo, and Thomas Wolf (Huggingface). Earlier, Lovable raised €6.8 million in pre-seed funding, providing the foundation for its rapid growth. With the funds raised, the startup is focusing on expanding integrations with platforms like Supabase for databases and GitHub for code storage, while continuing to enhance its AI capabilities.
