Berlin-based Deutsche Sanierungsberatung (dsb), a German energy consulting company and marketplace for renovation projects, has secured €3.6 million in a Seed funding round.
The funding round was led by Vireo Ventures, with participation from J Labs, IBB Ventures and Saxovent.
“16 million buildings in Germany need to be renovated by 2033 to meet EU energy efficiency standards. The main hurdle is often a lack of trust in various service providers – and that’s exactly where we come in. As a neutral partner and service provider we work together with local installers and firms to simplify renovation for millions of homeowners, helping them reduce electricity and heating costs,” says Sebastian Schmidt, Founder and CEO of dsb.
dsb was founded in 2024 by three former employees of German unicorn Enpal to assist homeowners in the renovation of their property: Sebastian Schmidt, Niclas Kern, and Adam Khenissi.
The company has developed an end-to-end digital platform that can be used to plan renovation measures, from insulation to solar panel installation.
They provide comprehensive services for the energy-efficient renovation of residential buildings. Their offerings include the creation of an individual renovation roadmap (iSFP), which outlines tailored measures for energy savings. They also assist in applying for government subsidies to help clients secure financial benefits. Through their independent consultation and support from planning to implementation, they help homeowners reduce energy costs and sustainably increase the value of their property.
“We are impressed by the ambitious and driven founding team and their strong entrepreneurial vision to bring a 360-degree solution for homeowners to the market. Energy-efficient renovation is and remains a critical topic. It is the only way to comply with the EU Buildings Directive and enable affordable, sustainable living,” says Felix Krause, Managing Partner at Vireo Ventures.
dsb’s mission is to accelerate energy-efficient renovations through PV systems, heat pumps, insulation, or window replacement as simple, affordable, and transparent as possible. The company looks to become a nationwide central partner, connecting single-family homeowners with local craftsmen.
“We were particularly inspired by the experience and ambition of the founding team. We expect Deutsche Sanierungsberatung to significantly accelerate the decarbonization of German households and have therefore invested funds from the impact VC Fund we manage,” says Stephan Schulze, Investment Director at IBB Ventures.
“The energy-efficient renovation of residential buildings is a key lever for climate protection – and it must be as simple as possible for homeowners. Deutsche Sanierungsberatung addresses this by creating transparency and removing barriers. Our focus is on supporting companies that drive real change through innovative business models. dsb brings the right players together and makes it easier for homeowners to access efficient and sustainable renovation solutions,” emphasises Jesko von Viereck, Head of Corporate Development at Saxovent.
“We are thrilled to have top investors from the climatetech sector and experienced consumer investors as partners for our next growth phase. In addition to Vireo Ventures, new partners include FJ Labs, IBB Ventures, and Saxovent. Our next milestones include the digital networking of our customers’ solar systems and e-cars, as well as the integration of smart electricity tariffs on our platform,” adds Niclas Kern, Founder and CFO of DSB.
The new funds will be used to further expand the platform, automate services, and accelerate growth.
