London-based Plain, a platform innovating B2B customer support, today announced it has raised €14.5 million in Series A funding to develop their AI-powered platform and establish its first U.S. office in San Francisco.
The funding round was led by Battery Ventures, with continued participation from Index Ventures and Connect Ventures.
“Support is no longer just about closing tickets – it’s about building long-term relationships,” said Simon Rohrbach, Co-founder and CEO of Plain. “The migration to collaborative, real-time channels is changing the way businesses interact with customers. Plain is the platform designed for this new reality, helping companies deliver support that’s fast, effective, and aligned with their customers’ needs.”
Founded in 2020 by Simon Rohrbach and Matt Vagni, who helped scale Deliveroo from 10 to 2,000 employees, Plain draws on its founders’ experience designing systems for high-growth businesses. Rohrbach led Deliveroo’s 40-person content, research, and design team, while Vagni played a key role in building its design systems and internal tooling.
This hands-on expertise shapes Plain’s approach to modernising corporate, B2B support workflows as employees increasingly work off email and in new communication channels.
Plain is used by companies like Sanity, Laravel, Stytch, and Raycast to consolidate their customer communication workflows.
According to Plain, as B2B support evolves, three major shifts are redefining the way businesses engage with their customers:
- A shift to real-time, collaborative channels: Companies are moving from email and ticketing systems to high-touch platforms like Slack and Microsoft Teams, where conversations feel more personal and immediate.
- Collaboration across teams: The lines between customer support and success are blurring. Teams are working more closely with engineering and product to solve issues, increasing the need for platforms that foster teamwork.
- AI-powered workflows: To stay ahead of customer expectations, companies are adopting tools that automate repetitive tasks, extract insights, and adapt in real time.
“We’ve always prioritized building a product that puts quality above all else,” said Matt Vagni, Co-founder and CTO of Plain. “People come to Plain because they want something that’s fast, frictionless, and designed with care. This funding allows us to continue delivering that level of quality while scaling to meet the needs of even more companies.”
Plain enables modern enterprises to consolidate high-touch communication channels like Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Discord alongside traditional platforms like email and chat, creating a unified platform for customer conversations.
By fostering collaboration between support, engineering, and customer success teams, Plain helps businesses resolve support issues faster. Its AI-powered workflows automate repetitive tasks, draft detailed responses, and extract product insights from customer interactions, empowering teams to deliver better support and stay closer to customers’ needs.
Plain will use the €14.5 million to enhance its platform capabilities – adding new, innovative features and deeper integrations – as well as to grow its team and open a San Francisco office to better serve its growing U.S. and Bay Area customer base.
The company has plans to double its workforce across sales, marketing, design, and engineering over the next six months to meet increasing product demand.
Neeraj Agrawal, a Battery Ventures general partner, noted: “Simon and Matt’s dedication to crafting an exceptional product is clear in everything they’ve built. As B2B support moves into this new era of collaboration and AI, Plain is well positioned to lead the way. We’re thrilled to partner with them on this journey.” Battery is a global, technology-focused investment firm, and Agrawal joins Plain’s board as part of the transaction.
