NatureMetrics, a Surrey-based startup in nature intelligence and biodiversity monitoring, has announced the completion of a €24.3 million Series B funding round.
This investment, led by Just Climate, EDF Pulse Ventures, and the Monaco ReOcean Fund, includes contributions from existing backers 2150, BNP Paribas, Ananda Impact Ventures, and SWEN Blue Ocean.
The funding will accelerate NatureMetrics’ development of cutting-edge biodiversity monitoring solutions, including its environmental DNA (eDNA) technology and AI-enhanced Nature Intelligence Platform.
Dimple Patel, CEO of NatureMetrics, remarked: “Companies can no longer afford to ignore their impact on ecosystems. Addressing nature-related risks isn’t just about compliance—it’s about future-proofing business operations and making meaningful contributions to a sustainable future. This investment will allow us to rapidly accelerate our solution—enabling businesses to understand nature across their supply chains and make informed operational and financial decisions. We are making nature data accessible and actionable, driving a shift towards a more sustainable global economy.”
Founded in 2014 by Dr Kat Bruce, NatureMetrics operates labs in the UK and Canada, with a partner lab in Indonesia. It is a nature intelligence technology company providing an end-to-end nature monitoring and impact reporting solution. It is currently operating in 110 different countries and employs a team of over 200 people.
With rising demands for nature-related data driven by regulations like the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), NatureMetrics looks to lead the way in addressing these challenges.
NatureMetrics’ eDNA technology, combined with advanced analytics, allows for site-level biodiversity assessments. This approach supports organisations in managing risks, tracking conservation progress, and making informed decisions across industries.
The company’s client base spans over 600 organisations, including major corporates like Unilever and Anglo American, as well as conservation groups like WWF and Fauna & Flora.
The rising need for robust biodiversity data has driven the demand for NatureMetrics’ solutions, especially in the wake of COP15 and the adoption of the Global Biodiversity Framework.
By combining eDNA with AI and Earth observation technologies, the company provides the ability to monitor ecosystems, offering a scalable solution to meet growing regulatory and environmental requirements.
The investment will be channelled into several key areas:
- Enhancing the Nature Intelligence Platform to deliver actionable biodiversity insights.
- Expanding AI and digital capabilities for processing complex geospatial and bioacoustics data.
- Broadening global reach to meet the increasing demand for biodiversity monitoring solutions.
Investors have expressed strong confidence in NatureMetrics’ potential. Siddarth Shrikanth, Director of Natural Climate Solutions at Just Climate, stated: “We believe that companies across industries seeking to protect and restore nature within their operations and supply chains lack the high-quality data they need to act with confidence. NatureMetrics combines the power of environmental DNA technology with a range of other data sources to generate actionable insights, and we are delighted to support their scale-up journey at a critical moment for global biodiversity action.”
Similarly, Olivier Wenden, CEO of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, noted: “NatureMetrics is revolutionising biodiversity data, by turning insights into actionable strategies that align economic growth with environmental and ocean resilience. This innovation drives value creation while setting a new benchmark for embedding ocean health into business decisions – a natural fit for the ReOcean Fund’s mission to transform the blue economy.”
