Paris-based Mago raises €1.5 million to transform video production with generative AI

Mago, a French startup specialising in AI-driven video transformation and stylisation, has secured €1.5 million in pre-seed funding from Atlantic Labs, a European first-round investor based in Berlin. The funding will enable Mago to expand its team, accelerate development, and prepare for its market launch in early 2025.

Mago aims to revolutionise video production by offering an AI-powered platform that combines professional-grade precision with artistic flexibility. Built on the success of co-founder Aleksandr Spirin’s open-source project WarpFusion, Mago targets the broader creative sector, including freelancers, studios, and agencies.

“Think of it as a universal filter for professional video, offering complete creative control and freedom,” explained Alvaro Lamarche Toloza, co-founder of Mago. “By accelerating production pipelines, we empower creators to do more with less, while preserving human creativity. Our goal is to amplify creative capabilities, not replace them.”

Mago’s technology allows creators to transform live-action footage into any aesthetic or artistic style, such as animation or oil painting, while maintaining professional quality and consistency. The platform’s intuitive interface is tailored for iterative AI workflows, providing creators with complete control and visibility over the creative process. Future developments include integration with widely used software like Unreal Engine and Blender, as well as SaaS and on-premise deployment options.

Alice Bardon Catineau from Atlantic Labs highlighted the significance of Mago’s innovation: “Mago’s approach to transforming video production with AI is a game-changer for creators. Alvaro and Aleksandr are seasoned creative professionals who understand the challenges of the industry and have a strong vision. We’re excited to support the Mago team as they take this technology from France to the world.”

Mago hopes to address challenges in the rapidly growing video production market, where non-realistic content creation remains costly and complex, often requiring up to €300,000 per minute of animation. By leveraging generative AI, Mago simplifies these workflows, making high-quality stylisation more accessible and cost-effective for industries such as film, animation, gaming, and advertising.
