Contribe, a Copenhagen-based startup founded in 2023, has raised €1 million (7,5 million DKK) from venture funds Rockstart, Human Act Development, and the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark (EIFO), along with business angels including Morten Bæhrenz and Maria Krogh. The company provides a platform that enables consumers to support various social and environmental causes through their everyday online purchases, aiming to reach one million users by the end of 2025. Contribe seeks to scale globally and integrate sustainability into shopping experiences, addressing both consumer demand for impactful engagement and businesses’ need to demonstrate genuine commitment to social responsibility.
Contribe aims to reshape consumer engagement with sustainability through its innovative platform. Contribe enables users to support causes such as environmental conservation and social justice simply by making purchases from participating online stores. The platform integrates seamlessly into the shopping experience, allowing consumers to contribute to initiatives like plastic cleanup or carbon capture without incurring additional costs.
With a user base of over 100,000 spread across 52 countries, Contribe has swiftly garnered attention from both consumers and businesses for its unique approach to aligning everyday spending with meaningful impact. The company’s model addresses the growing demand for authentic corporate responsibility while providing measurable benefits to participating brands, including increased conversion rates and customer loyalty.
“Contribe is built on the recognition that consumers, especially Gen Zs and Millennials, aren’t just interested in discounts and savings. They want to make a difference and leave a positive impact on the planet. Meanwhile, they’re not interested in boring ESG reports or empty eco-friendly claims” says Christoffer Winther Bouet, Co-founder of Contribe.
Contribe has, since late 2023, secured over 100 online stores as customers, and 100,000 people worldwide have used their solution.Their platform offers a “modern form of loyalty,” allowing customers to support causes such as plastic collection, carbon capturing, and women’s rights through their everyday purchases, all without any extra cost to the customer.
“At Contribe, we believe that every transaction is an opportunity to make a difference. Our platform allows businesses to create a win-win-win situation where customers can support causes they care about while shopping online, and companies are rewarded for making a difference,” says Tobias Ørskov Madsen, Co-founder of Contribe.
Brands can now do good without the fear of greenwashing by partnering with Contribe as a verified partner.
“Today, only a small percentage of companies actively support good causes. This is because there hasn’t been a solution that allows them to support green and social initiatives without sacrificing profit. Now we’re changing that,” says Christoffer Winther Bouet, Co-founder of Contribe.
In a short time, Contribe has acquired more than 100 customers, including brands like MessyWeekend, Copenhagen Cartel, Sinatur Hotel & Conference, and the Swedish brand Understatement. However, for businesses, it’s not just about having a good conscience. Businesses using Contribe can actually measure that it directly increases their conversion rates, order value, and repeat purchases while building a loyal community of impact-driven customers.
“Our customers are not only doing good for the planet; they are also improving their performance and getting happier customers. That’s why we call it a win-win-win,” says Christoffer Winther Bouet, Co-founder of Contribe.
They have now secured investment from venture funds Rockstart, Human Act Development, EIFO, and several renowned business angels to scale the business globally.
“Some of the strongest venture funds, business angels, industry experts, and companies in our space believe in the idea. We are now ready to scale and give even more people the opportunity to make a difference with their everyday purchases,” says Tobias Ørskov Madsen, Co-founder of Contribe.
The ambitions are sky-high when asked about their goals for the future.
“Our clear goal is 1 million users by the end of 2025. Right now, we’re building the future, and we believe that in 10 years, shopping with social sustainability will be a standard for all companies,” says Christoffer Winther Bouet, Co-founder of Contribe.
