The German football startup Prematch has attracted a seven-figure investment from renowned business angels like Serge Gnabry and David Raum and the family office around Liverpool FC coach Jürgen Klopp.
After the app dominated the app charts shortly after its launch in 2021 and attracted the attention of various investors, the well-known faces of international football are now bringing their expertise and passion to the company as business angels – the next milestone in the rapid growth story.
Lukas Röhle, Founder and CEO of Prematch, said: “Football is the world’s most popular sport. Our focus is on grassroots football, which accounts for 99.9% of all active players. With Prematch, we strive to be a community platform that ignites the football passion of more than 2 billion passionate people while creating digital access. With their authentic passion for grassroots football, Jürgen Klopp and his family are an amazing addition to our investors’ circle.”
Prematch is a social platform for grassroots football, covering all divisions below the professional level. Prematch also just made the platform available for all youth players in Germany. On Prematch, every player receives his or her own profile with personal performance data and statistics. Within just one year after its launch, players from 94% of all German football teams are already using Prematch.
The platform focuses on personalized grassroots football news and detailed match statistics, which each player can view on their own profile page (like on LinkedIn/Instagram) with their own market value and gamification elements. Prematch gives players visibility, recognition, and appreciation.
Jürgen Klopp and his family have long been committed to grassroots football and are still closely connected with their German hometown clubs SV Glatten and TuS Nieder-Eschbach.
Jürgen Klopp, head coach of Liverpool FC and still a big fan of grassroots sports, added: “The role that grassroots football clubs play in society is huge. No player in the world would be the player today without a local football club and its community. It’s the basis for everything.”
Being backed by the Klopp family office and various other top-tier business angels, Prematch will continue to digitize and connect grassroots football, its stories and its passion among players, fans and coaches.
