The Dutch House of Representatives announced on Tuesday, October 24, the approval of a one-time allocation of €4M to support nine regional development companies to strengthen their supra-regional cooperation.
By adopting a more unified approach, the Regional Development Companies (ROMs) can further foster innovative SMEs and startups in the regions striving towards a sustainable future, allowing them to develop faster.
This will enable necessary innovations to arrive in the market earlier and contribute towards building a sustainable earning capacity for the Netherlands.
Stimulating cooperation between Regional Development Companies
The decision of the House of Representatives stimulates cooperation between the ROMs on national themes such as Smart Industry, SME digitalisation, green chemistry, battery technology, and sustainable food chains.
Additionally, it promotes the enhancement of innovation chains, networking structures, and the sharing of knowledge and experiences between different regions.
Every province has many innovative SME entrepreneurs who have smart and appropriate answers to today’s major social questions.
To solve the social challenges facing the Netherlands, the innovations and strength of innovative SMEs and startups in the region are desperately needed.
Wendy de Jong, chairman of the partnership of the nine regional development companies ROM-Nederland, says, “We believe that the innovative companies in the heart of the regions – together with larger companies – can make a difference in the development of the Netherlands. We are pleased with the one-off allocation of €4 million to give supra-regional cooperation an extra boost.”
“This underlines the importance of development companies to drive innovation and transitions deep in the regions through development and financing activities, in line with the mission-driven innovation policy. In this way, we are building a bridge between the national government and the region,” adds Wendy de Jong.
