Los Angeles-based MedTech Innovator, the world’s largest accelerator for medical technology companies, announced on Wednesday, June 7, the list of startups participating in the 2023 Accelerator Cohort.
After a competitive selection process, 61 companies were chosen to participate in the MedTech Innovator’s flagship MedTech Accelerator programme, which spans four months.
This cohort comprises cutting-edge medical device, diagnostic, and digital health companies from around the globe.
Startups from the Netherlands
The list includes two Netherlands startups. They are:
Vitestro
HQ: Utrecht
Founded in 2017 by Toon Overbeeke and Brian Joseph, Vitestro aims to bring autonomous blood-drawing equipment to hospitals in Europe.
The company’s device combines AI-based robotic needle insertion and ultrasound-guided 3D rebuilding to ensure precise and safe blood collection. It has tested its prototype on more than 1,000 individuals.
Happitech
HQ: Amsterdam
Happitech has developed the world’s first CE Certified heart rate software development kit (SDK) for Android and iOS.
Once integrated into an application, the company’s patented PPG algorithms allow medical-grade vital signs monitoring directly through a smartphone.
Backed by clinical evidence, CE Certified, and AI, Happitech is designed to support the medical community, health & wellness practitioners, and patients globally in the screening and monitoring of:
- Atrial Fibrillation (AF)
- Heart Rate
- Heart Rate Variability
Exposure, opportunities, and funding
By being part of this programme, the 2023 Cohort members gain exposure and opportunities to engage with prominent medtech manufacturers, providers, investors, and key stakeholders within the industry.
MedTech Innovator is also set to provide $800,000 in non-dilutive funding to deserving winners of competitions held throughout the 2023 programme.
MedTech Innovator reports 1,150 companies submitted applications for the 2023 Accelerator.
After a selection process involving over 400 industry judges and corporate partners, nearly 200 candidates were chosen to participate in in-person pitch and partnering events on the MedTech Innovator Road Tour.
These events provided an opportunity for candidates to meet with over 300 evaluators representing prominent industry stakeholders.
Finally, after four months of diligence, this year’s cohort of 61 startups was selected. The cohort represents 21 US states as well as Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Ireland, Japan, Kazakhstan, Luxembourg, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and the UK.
Winners will be featured in MedTech Strategist
The programme will take place on June 14-15 at the exclusive Innovator Summit in Mountain View, California.
Each of the 61 startup leaders will engage in networking events and workshops with MedTech Innovator’s partners, alumni, and other esteemed guests.
On June 16, the 2023 Cohort will be featured at the WSGR Medical Device Conference in San Francisco. This is where all 61 companies will present themselves to investors.
Additionally, five startups will compete for the $25K Vision Award, with the winner determined by a vote from the WSGR conference audience.
The first-place winner will also be featured in MedTech Strategist. This event marks the first of five competitions in MedTech Innovator’s 2023 Accelerator programme.
Pairing medtech startups with industry leaders
A subset of 42 early-stage companies will participate in MedTech Innovator’s corporate mentorship programme. This programme pairs medtech startups with experienced industry leaders who provide ongoing and customised mentorship and support.
Additionally, five companies have been chosen for the MTI/ASPS Plastic Surgery Accelerator track. This is held in partnership with the American Society for Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).
These companies will receive additional mentorship from ASPS plastic surgeons and mentors, and will be showcased at Plastic Surgery The Meeting from October 26 to 29 in Austin, TX.
The programme will culminate at The MedTech Conference powered by AdvaMed from October 9 to 11.
During this conference, all 61 companies will present in Showcase panels and gain access to valuable industry and investor partnering opportunities.
Five startups from the Accelerator Cohort will compete for the Execution Award, while another five companies will advance to the Grand Finals competition.
$350K for the winner
The winner of the $350,000 non-dilutive grand prize, determined by an audience vote, will be crowned the 2023 MedTech Innovator from the early-stage cohort.
Furthermore, a separate competition will award $300,000 in non-dilutive funding to winners from the mid-stage cohort.
