A data center is being planned in Western Norway by former execs of a hydrogen company.
Reikna AS this week announced plans to purchase land in Grøn næringspark at Husnes for a new data center development.
The investment decision for NDC Husnes is planned for the fourth quarter of 2026, with construction starting immediately thereafter. The first 50MW phase could launch in 2028, and the site could scale to 150MW.
“We are convinced that Husnes and Grøn Næringspark is one of the best-positioned locations in the country for this type of infrastructure. The combination of available renewable power, a suitable site, a forward-looking and supportive municipality, and an active business environment is unique,” said Thor Henrik W. Hagen, founding partner at Reikna.
Husnes is the largest village in Kvinnherad Municipality in Vestland county, near the western coast of Norway.
Reikna, set up by execs from Norwegian hydrogen firm HYDS, aims to develop data centers in Norway that utilize the country’s excess clean power. The company says it is targeting a portfolio of 300MW across multiple sites by 2030.
Reikna said it is in the final phase of capital raising and bringing strategic partners to finance this project and the wider company.
“We don’t just want to build a data center. We want to help create a new and sustainable industrial cluster at Husnes, where the energy we use comes back to the local environment in the form of heat, expertise, and jobs,” added Vigdis H. Hope, founding partner at Reikna.
