BBLeap, a Netherlands-based AgTech startup specialising in high-precision spraying technology, has closed a €5 million investment round.
The round was led by new investors ESquare Capital and Yield Lab Europe, alongside existing shareholders, including the founders and early investors Brabant Development Agency (BOM) and Beheermaatschappij Vriend.
“I have always said that BBLeap will become a world player that takes agriculture to the next level. Until now, farmers were forced into bad applications because the industry standards aren’t good enough. Today, our technology is a ‘must-have’ for every farmer in the world. We give them 100% assurance that they spray exactly what they want—delivering good applications, fewer diseases, and fewer weeds, while using significantly fewer chemicals. We are the solution the world is longing for,” said Peter Millenaar, CEO of BBLeap.
Founded in 2019 by Peter Millenaar, Martijn van Alphen, and Rieks Kampman, BBLeap offers centimetre-accurate technology that enables farmers to treat each plant individually, maximising efficiency and reducing waste from previous methods. It aims to replace the outdated “spray and pray” techniques with its LeapBox and LeapEye systems (its Broadacre camera system).
The company’s plant precision spraying ensures each plant or fruit receives the exact amount, maximising yields and minimising waste. BBLeap claims to enable high-resolution precision spraying at 25x25cm accuracy, integration with task maps and farm management systems, and data tracking with as-applied maps. The company uses a combination of hardware (LeapBox) and software (LeapSpace) to manage plant precision spraying.
According to the company, unlike traditional Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) spraying, LeapBox operates at up to 100Hz. This allows for extremely quick open/close times, stepless control from 2% to 98% at low speed, and a consistent spray pattern at any speed – even up to 36 km/hr.
LeapBox also provides nozzle-by-nozzle control, where each nozzle acts as a smart sprayer, adjusting output in real time based on speed, turns, crop location, task map input, and even tree contour or plant structure. It is compatible with all sprayer types and brands, including broadacre sprayers, orchard sprayers, as well as robotic and autonomous sprayers.
“As an early investor, BOM is proud to continue supporting BBLeap in scaling a breakthrough technology that drastically reduces chemical use while improving farm efficiency. With this round, BBLeap is positioned to accelerate global adoption of sustainable precision spraying — perfectly aligned with our mission to drive climate‑positive innovation from Brabant to the world,” said Ingrid Nieweg, Investment Manager ClimateTech at Brabant Development Agency (BOM).
BBLeap systems are currently in use by more than 200 users across Europe and Australia, with a launch underway in Canada. According to the company, the system delivers chemical usage reductions ranging from 20% to 99%. It also reports productivity gains of up to 40%.
With the funding, the company plans to finalise the commercial release of LeapEye and to prioritise the global expansion of the LeapBox.
