A data center worth £1 billion ($1.3bn) will be built near Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, England, where a number of famous movie franchises – including James Bond and Star Wars – were filmed.
Pinewood Studios itself is the applicant, and the Buckinghamshire Council voted on February 25 to approve the film studio’s plans to develop a data center campus offering up to 55,030 sqm (592,340 sq ft) of floorspace.
The property will be located south of Pinewood Studios, and it will consist of four data center buildings, two substations, several ancillary plants, and a six-acre “community garden” with a learning space and an orchard.
Details about capacity and possible end-users were not disclosed.
Classic titles – including Alien, Superman, Full Metal Jacket, and Tim Burton’s Batman – were filmed at Pinewood Studios.
Marvel Studios, responsible for the The Avengers series, moved its main film production servers and offices to Pinewood Studios in 2025.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the studios as “the spiritual home of the British film industry” when he visited the site in January 2025. But a decline in content production means the company is seeking other income streams.
Pinewood Group floated the idea of developing a data center on the land parcel back in February 2025 before submitting a formal application on July 3, 2025.
Buckinghamshire is located in southeast England, the UK.
