Vantage Data Centers and investment firm Altarea are teaming up to build a 400MW data center campus in Bordeaux, France.
The campus, which will be developed on land owned by Altarea, is expected to be one of the largest data centers in France, the companies said.
Altarea has already secured a 400MW power connection for the site. A precise location, and construction timelines, have not been shared. DCD has contacted the companies for more details.
Ludovic Castillo, CEO of Altarea’s data center business, said: “Altarea’s mission has always been to meet France’s essential needs. As the digital transition becomes critical to national competitiveness, our local expertise enables us to deliver a full range of data centers with exemplary environmental performance.”
The development marks US-based Vantage’s first foray into France, though it already operates in nine other markets in the EMEA region.
David Howson, president of Vantage Data Centers EMEA, said: “Entering France alongside Altarea positions us to deliver capacity at unrivaled speed and scale.
“By combining our global expertise with Altarea’s local insight, we are well-positioned to meet the evolving requirements of these hyperscale and AI customers. We look forward to bolstering France’s digital infrastructure capabilities that will support the country’s European and international edge.”
Altarea’s data center portfolio already includes Nation Data Center, which operates and is developing facilities across France.
France is in the midst of a major AI data center build-out, which was covered in-depth in issue 57 of DCD>Magazine.
