The property industry has joined forces with the wider community to show powerful support for Bex’s Battle — a charity ice hockey match raising vital funds and awareness for breast cancer charities CoppaFeel and Breast Cancer Now.
The event was inspired by Bex Combellack, who was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year and is currently undergoing treatment. Since her diagnosis, Bex and her husband Richard Combellack, Chief Commercial Officer at proptech supplier Nurtur, have worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the disease and the importance of early detection, while fundraising to support life-saving services.
Hosted by the Nottingham Knights, Bex’s Battle brought together property professionals, ice hockey fans and local residents for a one-day charity fixture at the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham. A CoppaFeel team took on a Breast Cancer Now team in a symbolic display of unity and community spirit.
The event attracted around 2,500 attendees and raised more than £22,000, with donations still being received. The impressive turnout surpassed crowds seen at several Elite League fixtures, underlining the scale of support for the cause.
Fans travelled from across the property sector and beyond, creating a vibrant atmosphere both on and off the ice. The match featured a standout lineup including former Nottingham Panthers and British National Team players David Clarke and Marc Levers, alongside former Sheffield Steeler Ben Bliss.
Away from the rink, guests enjoyed a range of activities including a pop-up barber shop, a 50/50 draw and a raffle offering prizes such as a signed Panthers shirt and an Ollie Betteridge stick, adding to the celebratory spirit of the day.
Richard Combellack commented: “Thank you to everyone who supported Bex’s Battle and helped us raise over £22,000 for breast cancer charities, and the total is still rising. The turnout was phenomenal, with 2,500 people coming together on the day, more than several Elite League games.
The property industry once again showed what it’s capable of, with Nurtur and Agents Giving supporting the event through sponsorship of ticket printing and players’ jerseys. Most importantly, we’re using this momentum to spread a vital message: get checked. Early detection can save lives.”
The money raised will directly support education, early awareness and vital breast cancer services delivered by CoppaFeel and Breast Cancer Now. These initiatives help ensure more people have access to life-saving information, promote early detection, and provide ongoing support throughout diagnosis and treatment.
For the Combellacks, the goal is clear: to encourage people to check themselves and seek medical advice early, helping to ensure breast cancer is identified when it is most treatable.
Fundraising for Bex’s Battle is still ongoing, with a silent auction open until next Sunday, offering further opportunities to support breast cancer awareness and vital services:
