Canadian data center firm Carrier Connect is acquiring data center assets in New Brunswick, Canada.
Announced this week, Carrier has entered into a non-binding letter of intent to acquire the data center business assets owned and operated by managed services provider Carbon60.
According to the company’s latest investor presentation, the acquired facility totals 500kW across three data halls, fully built out and serving more than 20 customers.
Carrier is set to pay $1.6 million cash for the assets. The deal, being offered through Carrier Connect’s PureColo unit, will need to be finalized by February 15.
Mark Binns, Carrier CEO, said: “The Saint John data center is the perfect addition to the Carrier portfolio, giving us national coverage from British Columbia to Atlantic Canada. We are acquiring an excellent portfolio of long term customers and a facility that will be highly autonomous to manage, with expansion possibilities.”
Carbo60 is a Canadian managed services provider owned by investment firm M/C Partners. It provides private, public, and hybrid cloud services and a full suite of managed services.
According to Data Center Map, Carbon60 operates two facilities in St. John, New Brunswick: one at 1602-15 Market Square and another at 75 Prince William Street. Carbon60 entered St. John in 2019 after acquiring managed cloud and hosting solutions provider Cirrus9.
It’s unclear which facility Carrier has acquired.
Ryan Smyth, president and CEO of Carbon60, added: “By bringing Carrier Connect’s colocation expertise into the region to manage the data center facilities, this transaction enables Carbon60 to continue to operate in those same facilities while sharpening its focus on providing tailored cloud consulting and managed services across private cloud, AWS, Azure, and GCP platforms for our maritime customers.”
Launched in 2019, Carrier initially operated a seven-rack presence for a handful of clients in the Spencer Building carrier hotel at Harbour Centre in Vancouver, before moving to a larger space at 200 Burrard in 2022 and closing the Spencer Building operation.
The operator now describes itself as a “data center company on a mission to roll up Tier II/III data centers internationally that specialize in delivering colocation,” and has been acquiring a number of assets in the last year.
Carrier currently operates a data center at 200 Burrard Street in Vancouver. Launched in 2022, the facility offers capacity for 50 racks. The 21-story office building totals more than 365,000 sq ft (33,910 sqm).
The company recently acquired Ottawa-based PureColo, taking over two facilities in the Ontario city. Last year also saw the firm acquire a data center in Perth, Australia: the 2MW facility offers capacity for up to 220 racks.
