Data Center Group has deployed a micro data center for the Harz health district in Germany.

The district has opted for DCG’s “DC IT Safe 56/62 HE” offering, a modular micro data center solution.

The public health service in the Harz district, a highland area in northern Germany, expanded during the Covid-19 pandemic and found that its existing server room did not meet its IT needs.

Thus, the district decided to rebuild its IT infrastructure and put out a public tender, eventually awarding the contract to DCG.

The DC IT Safe is a turnkey solution covering less than two square meters (22 sq ft) of floorspace, with an outer shell that protects the hardware within from fire, water, dust, and other hazards. It comes in 56 and 62U configurations. DCG also helped the district to integrate the solution with its existing IT infrastructure.

According to DCG, it was deployed on time despite “complex requirements and a fixed schedule.”

The DC IT Safe means that the district now has, in addition to its remaining infrastructure, an independent and secure solution that can continue operations during an outage, as it comes with cooling technology and an independent UPS.

“We are very pleased with the project outcome. It was a long but successful journey – the collaboration with the Data Center Group was consistently positive,” said Heike Breiting, project manager at the Harz District.

Data Center Group has previously constructed a data center for Germany’s Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU). The company is also involved in a data center project in Wettenburg, Germany.
