Data center developer DayOne is planning a third campus in Finland.
The company this week announced “early-stage plans” for a data center project in Klaukkala, Nurmijärvi.
The campus, in the Sudentulli area of northern Klaukkala, could total up to 560MW. Timelines for development haven’t been shared.
The Municipality of Nurmijärvi has initiated its handling of a preliminary sale of the data center site with DayOne. The company has also signed an agreement with energy firm Fortum for a grid connection.
Klaukkala is the southern-most urban area (Finnish: taajama) of the Nurmijärvi municipality in Uusimaa, some 30km north of Helsinki.
GDS, a Chinese data center operator, spun DayOne out as a separate business last year, but has retained a minority shareholding in the company.
Headquartered in Singapore, DayOne’s portfolio currently comprises more than 500MW of data center capacity in service and under construction, and more than 500MW held for future development across sites in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia (Johor), Indonesia (Batam), and Japan (Tokyo). The company recently broke ground on a site in Thailand and another in Singapore.
In August, it made its first foray into markets beyond Asia, announcing a campus in Lahti, Finland. A second site is in development in Kouvola.
The first 50MW building in Lahti is scheduled to be ready for service in 2027. The Kouvola facility is being developed in partnership with Hyperco and is set to serve TikTok.
DayOne CEO Jamie Khoo outlined the company’s future plans to DCD in an interview earlier this year. Read it here now.
