Real estate firm Goodman has filed to develop a data center campus in Sydney, Australia.
In a SEARS application with the New South Wales government, Goodman has filed to develop a data center campus in the Eastern Creek area of the city.
Known as Project Atlas, the company has filed to develop two three-story data center buildings totaling 99,310 sqm (1 million sq ft) and up to 500MW of capacity, as well as an on-site substation. Documents suggest Goodman could invest up to AU$5 billion (US$3.37bn) in the development.
The company would demolish the existing buildings at 10 Roberts Road. The 17-hectare site is currently home to a vacant two-story distribution center previously occupied by Australian supermarket chain Coles.
JLL was marketing the site for lease as a warehouse last year, saying at the time that the site would be available from early 2025. Opened in 2008, JLL described the property as “Australia’s largest freestanding corporate distribution facility.”
The site is adjacent to an existing data center campus operated by CDC.
Traditionally focused on logistics and industrial real estate, Goodman has data center projects in operation or development across Hong Kong, Australia, Germany, the US, France, and Japan.
The company recently topped out a data center in Los Angeles, California. The 32MW facility is set to be handed over next year. Last month, it also announced plans for a 97MW data center in San Jose.
Goodman said the company has a power pipeline of 5GW, with 3.4GW of this secured and ready to use, and the rest at various stages of procurement.
Goodman is developing multiple data centers across Sydney. The company is planning a 126MW facility in Guildford West on a former Castrol site and is seeking to redevelop the former ABC television studios in the city’s North Shore area into an 80MW data center. It is also redeveloping a former Eaton warehouse site in Mascot into a 90MW facility, another 90MW site in Macquarie Park, and a warehouse site in Cove West into a 90MW campus.
