Norwegian data center firm Skygard has acquired two data centers in Oslo.

Skygard, which is owned by Norwegian telco Telenor, energy company Hafslund, and investment fund HitecVision, has acquired two facilities from Orange Business Services Norway.

The deal sees Skygard take over the OSL3 and OSL4 facilities from Orange. Terms were not shared.

“The acquisition marks an important milestone for Skygard. With this, we are significantly increasing our capacity and becoming a key player in secure data storage – a vital component of the digital foundation for Norwegian business,” said Elise Lindeberg, CEO of Skygard. “We are taking over a skilled operations team and an established customer portfolio, which gives us the opportunity to deliver better service and greater flexibility. We are combining two established data centers with our upcoming facility at Hovinbyen, and together with an experienced organization, we are laying the foundation for further growth.”

Ownership of Skygard is divided equally, with Telenor, Hafslund, and HitecVision each having a 31.7 percent stake, while consultancy firm Analysys Mason holds the remaining five percent.

Established in 2023, Skygard is developing a data center in Oslo, anchored by Telenor. Located in Hovinbyen, OSL1 is set to offer 20MW across 25,000 sqm (269,095 sq ft). It will offer its waste heat to the local district heating network.

The firm has also previously announced it plans to build two more data centers in the region to have a combined capacity of 40MW at full build-out.

Orange had owned the OSL3 and OSL4 data centers since 2018, when it acquired European managed service provider Basefarm for €350 million (then $410.2m) from Abry Partners.

OLS3 is located at Stanseveien 30, while OLS5 is located at Nordliveien 21 / Hornerudveien 25. Full specifications of the two facilities haven’t been shared. Previous sales brochures said OSL5, located in the Rasta area of the city, could offer up to 10MW across 6,000 sqm (64,583 sq ft) at full build-out.
