Norwegian smart waste management company REEN AS has acquired Swedish AI specialist Bintel AB in a cross-border deal aimed at building the Nordics’ most comprehensive digital waste platform. While financial terms were not disclosed, the acquisition is backed by growth capital earmarked for product integration and regional expansion, bringing together REEN’s sensor-driven logistics and fleet optimisation tools with Bintel’s AI-powered analytics platforms used by municipalities and property owners. Following the transaction, Bintel will be rebranded as REEN AB and serve as the group’s Swedish hub, with its Insight, Brain, and Go products integrated into REEN’s core software stack. The combined company plans to use the acquisition to deepen its presence in Sweden, accelerate deployment of data-driven waste services across the Nordics, and move closer to its target of managing hundreds of thousands of connected waste assets, positioning itself as a key infrastructure player in smart cities and circular economy initiatives.
REEN AS is a Norwegian technology company developing digital systems for the waste management industry. Headquartered in Norway, the company provides software and sensor-based solutions used by waste collectors, municipalities, real estate owners, and commercial operators to monitor waste assets, manage logistics, and analyse operational data. REEN’s platform combines fill-level sensors, asset tracking, and cloud-based applications to support route optimisation, reporting, and emissions reduction. The company operates across multiple European markets and focuses on applying data and automation to improve efficiency in waste collection and processing.
“This acquisition marks an important milestone on our journey toward 300,000 connected assets,” said Nora Johanne Sørsdahl, CEO of REEN. “By combining Bintel’s innovative AI technology and strong Swedish customer base with REEN’s scale and experience, we can accelerate growth and contribute to a more circular and data-driven economy.”
Bintel AB is a Swedish technology company specialising in data analytics and artificial intelligence for waste management and recycling operations. Based in Sweden, the company develops software platforms that help public and private organisations analyse waste streams, improve planning, and support decision-making through data-driven insights. Bintel’s products are used primarily by municipalities, property owners, and waste operators to gain visibility into waste generation, sorting performance, and operational efficiency. The company has built its focus around analytics, reporting, and AI-based optimisation within the waste value chain.
“Joining forces with REEN is a defining step for both companies,” said Jennie Orton, CEO of Bintel. “Together, we can scale faster, serve customers better, and lead the transformation of how cities and companies manage resources.”
The acquisition brings together REEN’s logistics software and sensor-based infrastructure with Bintel’s AI-driven analytics tools, which are widely used by municipalities, real estate owners, and commercial customers to optimise waste flows and resource use. The combined platform is designed to offer end-to-end visibility across the waste value chain, from fill-level monitoring and route optimisation to predictive analytics and decision support.
As part of the transaction, Bintel will be rebranded as REEN AB and become the group’s Swedish hub, strengthening REEN’s footprint in one of its key growth markets. Bintel’s product suite — Insight, Brain, and Go — will be integrated into REEN’s existing software portfolio, including REEN Control and REEN CMS, with the aim of delivering more advanced data services and improved operational efficiency for customers across the Nordics.
According to the companies, customers should not expect immediate changes to existing services or contracts. Current products, pricing, and support channels will remain in place, with enhancements rolled out gradually as the integration progresses. Over time, customers are expected to benefit from expanded product offerings, deeper analytics, and a unified support structure.
The transaction is expected to close by October 2025, subject to customary regulatory approvals. Once completed, the combined group plans to invest further in AI, data analytics, and smart city infrastructure, positioning itself as a key Nordic player in technology-enabled waste management and sustainability solutions.
