Property auction sales jump nearly 18% year-on-year

National property auction activity improved in November, with sales and values both higher than a year earlier. The number of lots sold rose by 17.8% year on year, while total funds raised increased by 16.3%, according to the latest data from the Essential Information Group (EIG).

Residential property continued to drive the market, delivering double-digit growth in receipts. Commercial auctions were weaker by comparison, largely due to lower sale prices rather than a drop in buyer demand.

Performance across the regions was mixed but generally positive. Much of southern England and the Midlands recorded higher funds raised, supported by more stock coming to market and steady buyer interest. Scotland also saw an improvement, with higher clearance rates lifting overall turnover.

However, conditions remained tougher in the North East and Northern Ireland, where lower volumes and weaker success rates continued to drag on results. Elsewhere, activity was broadly stable, with only modest changes compared with last year.

EIG’s David Sandeman commented: “With the final auctions of 2025 now underway, attention will turn to whether current levels of demand can be sustained through to year end, particularly as larger catalogues continue to come to market. Early indications suggest buyer appetite remains firm, supporting the expectation that overall results will finish ahead of last year.”
