Bitcoin mining firm Sangha Renewables has energized a 19.9MW cryptocurrency mining data center in Ector County, Texas.
The facility is powered behind-the-meter via a 150MW solar farm, owned and operated by French energy company TotalEnergies.
According to the companies, Sangha will develop, own, and operate the mining facility, provide high-efficiency mining hardware and advanced load-management capabilities designed to complement more renewable generation on the grid.
In turn, TotalEnergies will provide retail power solutions, including balancing services, supplemental grid power during non-solar hours, and structured power products in order to manage price volatility.
“TotalEnergies is excited to supply firm power to Sangha’s operations in West Texas. This project aligns with our Company’s ambition to deliver innovative energy solutions that support the decarbonization efforts of energy-intensive industries,” said Simon Binet, VP Trading US Gas & Power at TotalEnergies.
Sangha claims that operating behind-the-meter will unlock additional value for renewable power assets and support the local grid.
“This project highlights how Bitcoin mining can become a powerful tool to unlock new value streams for the energy sector,” said Spencer Marr, co-founder and president at Sangha Renewables. “By aligning our operations with innovative energy partners such as TotalEnergies, we’re demonstrating how digital infrastructure can accelerate the transition to a more sustainable and resilient energy future.”
The project is the first to be energized by the company. Following the milestone, the company intends to expand its portfolio, having raised $14 million in Equity in mid-2025.
Total has signed numerous power supply agreements with digital infrastructure companies. Earlier this week, it signed a 21-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Google in Malaysia. Before this, in January, it inked a 15-year PPA with European chip manufacturer STMicroelectronics.
