Porvoo-headquartered SEATOM has been selected for NATO’s Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA) 2026 programme, joining the Operations in Extreme Environments challenge track. The Porvoo-based company, which is developing dual-use nuclear-powered maritime systems, will receive €100,000 in initial contractual funding and take part in DIANA’s six-month accelerator, working with defence stakeholders and test centres across NATO member countries.
SEATOM was chosen under DIANA’s Operations in Extreme Environments challenge, which focuses on technologies designed to operate in harsh and remote conditions. The company is developing modular micro nuclear reactor systems for maritime applications, positioning the technology as dual-use, with potential relevance for both civilian and defence sectors.
Participation in the programme will place SEATOM in DIANA’s six-month Core Programme, during which selected companies work with NATO-affiliated accelerators, test centres, and defence stakeholders across the Alliance. SEATOM will be supported by the DualTech Accelerator in Turin, Italy, and gain access to technical expertise and infrastructure aimed at accelerating defence-related innovation.
As part of the programme, the company is set to receive €100,000 in initial contractual funding, with the possibility of further funding tied to testing and validation activities. DIANA also provides participating startups with opportunities to engage directly with NATO end-users and take part in operational experiments.
SEATOM’s selection comes as Nordic and European defence ecosystems increasingly focus on technologies suited for Arctic and extreme environments, a priority area for NATO following the expansion of its northern membership.
The 2026 DIANA Challenge Programme will officially begin in January 2026, with an international demo day planned for June 2026 in Paris, where participating companies are expected to present their progress to defence stakeholders and partners.
