Colocation firm Equinix is reportedly planning a large data center campus outside Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Omroep Flevoland reports the company is planning a 150MW campus at the Flevokust Haven industrial estate in Lelystad. The €1.5 billion ($1.7bn) site will reportedly total three two-story buildings.
Equinix is currently applying for permits and expects to begin construction sometime next year. The project will be completed in phases through to 2028 or 2029.
Lelystad is a Dutch municipality and the capital city of the province of Flevoland, some 55km (34.1 miles) east of Amsterdam.
The site, according to Michiel Eielts, director of Equinix Benelux, will be directly powered by the Maxima power plant. The Engie-owned plant is a 861.1MW gas-fired site launched around 2010.
The site at Flevokust Haven, directly adjacent to the Maxima power plant, has been designated as a data center area by the municipality since 2016.
Equinix currently operates nine data centers around Amsterdam, as well as single facilities in Enschede and Zwolle.
The colo giant announced that it had closed on a land acquisition in Amsterdam in its most recent quarterly earnings in November, but didn’t provide details.
