Global colocation firm Digital Realty has officially opened its latest data center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
The facility, AMS11, has a capacity of 27MW of IT capacity across 12,000 sqm (129,165 sq ft), increasing the company’s Dutch footprint to approximately 159MW.
The facility will offer direct access to more than 280 service providers and connectivity to NL-IX, one of Europe’s largest internet exchanges.
The facility is designed to support high-density and AI workloads. It incorporates cooling technologies, including direct liquid cooling alongside traditional air-based systems.
The project will be delivered across multiple phases, with the first two phases now operational. The latter two phases are planned for completion in 2026.
“With AMS11, we’re continuing to add critical capacity across EMEA to meet growing customer demand for digital infrastructure that supports AI and digital transformation,” said Paula Cogan, managing director, EMEA, Digital Realty. “The opening of AMS11 underlines our commitment to delivering scalable, sustainable, and connected data center capacity in key markets, enabling our customers to accelerate innovation and growth across the region.”
The company acquired land for the data center in 2023, a 36,000 sqm (387,500 sq ft) land parcel with capacity to support a 40MW data center, and will be interconnected with Digital Realty’s existing Schiphol facilities.
The facility’s power consumption will be matched 100 percent by renewable energy, according to the company. Globally, the company has over 1.7GW of renewable energy under contract.
Digital operates 13 data centers across Amsterdam, with around half of those in the Schiphol-Rijk industrial estate.
In March, it was reported that Digital Realty would host a quantum computer at the AMS17 facility in Amsterdam’s Science Park.
