A large-scale data center is being planned outside Leipzig, Germany.
Local press reports data center developer AM:PM Grund Group is looking to develop a 500MW campus on 44-hectares at the Zschortau industrial park in Rackwitz.
Although it has a dedicated project page, full details haven’t been shared. The company says it plans a modular development involving multiple buildings and on-site substation. A battery energy storage system (BESS) is also being considered.
Full project timelines haven’t been shared, but the permitting process could continue for another year at least. The campus could launch by 2030. No end customer has been secured yet. The development could see €4-6 billion ($4.6-6.9bn) invested.
Rackwitz is a municipality in the district of Nordsachsen, in Saxony, some 10km north of Leipzig.
A public meeting about the project was held earlier this month, with a reported 180 people attending. At the event, Mayor Steffen Schwalbe said: “From the very beginning, we want to develop this project together with the local community – openly, transparently, and with mutual respect.”
AM:PM has previously worked with Maincubes on a planned development in Berlin. On its website, the firm says it has developed 500MW of data center capacity across 350,000 sqm.
