Another data center could be coming to the Aragon region of Spain.

Negotiations for the installation of a large-scale data center in the La Charluca industrial estate in Calatayud are at an advanced stage, according to the mayor of the town, José Manuel Aranda.

The data center could cover an area of 400,000 sqm (4.3 million sq ft), with direct connection to the Terrer electricity substation.

The campus would be the second major development of the company Box2bit in Aragón, which is developing another project in nearby Cariñena.

Box2Bit is building the first of five facilities on 28 hectares at the Entreviñas industrial estate in Cariñena, south west of Zaragoza in Spain’s Aragon region. Known as Proyecto Ebro, construction work on the site is expected to start in Q4 2025, and the build is likely to take four years.

Backed by power company Capital Energy, Box2bit was founded in 2021, and a year later announced it intended to spend €3 billion ($3.26bn) building two data centers in the Castilla-La Mancha region of Spain.

In total, the company is aiming to bring 2GW of data center capacity online, and says its facilities will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy.

The company is also planning a campus in Malaga.
