European real estate developer Garbe is planning a large data center campus in Denmark.
Guldborgsund Municipality has entered into what it says is a historic agreement to sell land to Garbe Data Centers for a planned data center campus.
The deal concerns 35 hectares of commercial land in Business Park Falster at exit 43 on Nordfalster.
Garbe reportedly aims to invest up to 20 billion DKK ($3bn) in developing a 350MW campus that could host between six and nine data centers. The site could end up as the largest data center campus in Denmark.
Jonathan Henry, executive managing director at Garbe Data Centers, said: “This is an important milestone both for our company and for Denmark’s position as a center for sustainable digital infrastructure. Our ambition is to develop a data center campus of international top class, combining cutting-edge technology and design with a focus on renewable energy and high environmental responsibility.”
It is the largest land transaction in the municipality’s history to date. The sale follows a public tender process, where a unanimous Business and Development Committee has selected the offer from Garbe.
The purchase agreement is conditional, with Garbe conducting a number of surveys in the area in the coming months before a final purchase agreement can be signed and construction can begin.
Guldborgsund Municipality is a kommune in the Region Sjælland of Denmark, some 130km south of the Danish capital, Copenhagen.
Simon Hansen, Mayor of Guldborgsund Municipality, added: “This is a historic day for Guldborgsund Municipality. With the sale of 35 hectares of commercial land, we are realizing the largest land transaction in the municipality’s history and attracting investment at a level that we otherwise only see in national mega-projects. The data center will create many jobs, growth, and a stronger position for our area in the green, digital future. I look forward to working with Garbe Data Centers to ensure that the project is realized.”
Founded as NDC Garbe alongside NDC Data Centers in 2019, Garbe Data Centers is the data center division of real estate firm Garbe. Garbe, a German real estate company, was founded in 1965 and has industrial, residential, and energy investments across Europe
