Danish impact startup Contribe has raised an additional $500,000 in an extension of its pre-seed round, bringing total funding to $1.5 million. Backed by Rockstart, Human Act Development, and Better Future Fund, the company develops software that allows online stores to integrate charitable donations into the checkout process. The approach aims to align consumer purchasing behaviour with social impact while supporting NGOs through micro-donations. The latest funding will support international scaling, product refinement, and team expansion, as the company seeks to advance its model for embedding philanthropy in everyday online commerce.
Founded in Copenhagen in 2023, Contribe is a Danish impact technology company that helps online retailers integrate charitable giving directly into their checkout experience. Its platform allows consumers to contribute a portion of each purchase to a cause of their choice — at no additional cost — creating a seamless link between everyday commerce and social impact.
By combining philanthropy with e-commerce, Contribe provides measurable benefits for all stakeholders: webshops strengthen customer loyalty and increase conversion rates, NGOs gain consistent funding streams, and consumers engage in value-driven purchasing.
Operating across 15 markets with nearly 400 webshop clients and more than 1 million users, Contribe is supported by investors including Rockstart, Human Act Development, and Better Future Fund. The company’s mission is to make giving an effortless part of every online transaction, driving a future where every purchase contributes to a positive change.
“We’re seeing significant demand in the market – especially from end users who, perhaps surprisingly, are increasingly motivated by the opportunity to make a difference,” says Christoffer Bouet, CEO and Co-founder of Contribe.
According to recent data, Danish donations totaled DKK 7.6 billion in 2024, an 8.4% year-on-year increase, reflecting a growing public inclination toward purpose-driven spending. Contribe’s own growth mirrors this pattern: over the past year, the startup has quadrupled its customer base and now works with nearly 400 online stores across 15 markets.
“We’ve proven that the model works for everyone. End users are happy, our clients grow their revenue, and NGOs gain more resources,” says Christoffer Bouet, adding: “There’s nothing holding us back anymore. The next step is to take Contribe global and build a product that can define a whole new category within loyalty and e-commerce — with the vision that every purchase in the future contributes to a good cause.”
The new capital will be directed toward international expansion, product development, and team growth, as Contribe prepares to test its model beyond the Nordic region.
