Copenhagen-based SUMM Ingredients, formerly known as Nutrumami, has secured €1.7 million in new funding from EIFO and BoxOne, with existing investors Kost Capital and Planetary Impact Ventures also participating. The company develops multifunctional fermented proteins and is preparing to launch its first ingredient, FermiPro, later this year. The funding will be used to expand production capacity and support the product’s commercial rollout, which is expected to begin in autumn 2025. Alongside the raise, SUMM Ingredients has added Kasper Bus, formerly of AAK and Barry Callebaut, as Chief Commercial Officer to strengthen its leadership team.
SUMM Ingredients develops fermented protein ingredients intended for use in plant-based, hybrid, and conventional food products. Its first product, FermiPro, combines flavour, texture, and nutritional functions in a single ingredient, aiming to reduce the need for additives and modified starches. The company applies fermentation processes to legumes and grains and works across categories such as ready meals, sauces, dairy alternatives, and meat substitutes.
“Our mission is to pioneer a new ingredient category – multifunctional, fermented proteins – that deliver taste, texture, and nutrition in one solution. This gives food producers a smarter way to create clean-label, plant-centric foods that are healthier, more flavourful, and far simpler to formulate,” said Frederik Jensen, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of SUMM Ingredients.
EIFO highlighted the company’s potential to shape the future of sustainable food innovation.
Axel Bjørum, Green Transition at EIFO, commented: “Summ Ingredients is a strong example of how Danish foodtech can set new international standards. With a highly capable team and a technology addressing the real demand for healthier and more natural foods, they align closely with EIFO’s strategy to back companies that can drive growth while contributing to a more sustainable future.”
As part of its rebrand, SUMM Ingredients has added Kasper Bus to its leadership team as Chief Commercial Officer. Bus has held senior positions at companies including AAK, IMCD, Barry Callebaut, and Kohlberg, bringing broad international experience in food innovation and commercial strategy. His appointment is intended to help connect the company’s technical developments with market demand and support its efforts to expand internationally.
“With Kasper on board, we gain a strong commercial driver who can bridge our technology with market needs. It is an essential step in bringing our ingredients to customers globally,” added Jensen.
