The Jackson-Stops has released a new animated cartoon created by British artist Annie Tempest, exploring the contrast and connection between city life and countryside living.
This marks the second collaboration between Tempest and the estate agency, following an initial partnership last year.
The latest animation follows recurring characters Dicky and Daffy Tottering, who pass each other on trains – Daffy heading to the countryside with her new puppy Twiglet aboard a steam train, while Dicky travels into the City on a modern high-speed service.
The short animation aims to highlight the duality of work and leisure, reflecting the choices many make between rural escapes and urban commitments. The theme is designed to align with Jackson-Stops’ client base, many of whom seek property that enables a balance between the two lifestyles. Founded in 1910, the agency operates more than 40 offices across the UK, including five in London.
Annie Tempest is best known for her long-running cartoon strip Tottering-by-Gently, which has appeared in Country Life magazine since 1993. She also created The Yuppies, which ran in the Daily Mail for seven years. Her style, noted for its humour and focus on British domestic life, made her a fitting collaborator for this campaign, according to Jackson-Stops.
The animation was produced by Eliot Wykes of the studio Part Human, which has previously worked on commercial projects for brands such as Coca-Cola, Mercedes, and Tesco. Wykes worked closely with Tempest throughout the process to maintain the distinctive Tottering aesthetic.
The animation will run from September into the winter across Jackson-Stops’ social media platforms, digital advertising, in-branch displays, print ads, and marketing materials.
Nick Leeming, Chairman of Jackson-Stops, comments: “We are pleased to build on our collaboration with acclaimed cartoonist Annie Tempest with the release of our second animated feature, continuing the journey of Dicky and Daffy Tottering.
“The animation captures the modern rhythm of life for those navigating between urban hustle and rural calm, while once again highlighting Jackson-Stops’ connection between London and the countryside, reinforcing our position as the national estate agents that locals recommend.”
Annie Tempest added: “It’s a joy to bring Dicky and Daffy Tottering back in a new animation for Jackson-Stops, this time with a railway twist. Daffy sets off in a cloud of steam, embracing the romance of the journey back home to Tottering Hall after a few days in town, while Dicky speeds into London for lunch at his club aboard a high-speed train. I am already planning their next outing!”
