Finnish food technology company SuperGround Oy has secured an additional €1.15 million, bringing its total recent funding to €3.65 million. The extension round was led by CHECK24 Impact (Germany) and Propeller Ventures (US), following earlier backing from Hatch Blue Revolution Fund. SuperGround specializes in patented processing technology that transforms undervalued fish and poultry side streams into high-protein, cost-efficient products such as nuggets, patties, and burgers. The fresh capital will be used to accelerate commercialization efforts, starting with a newly announced partnership with Sweden’s Ocean Next AB, which will produce and launch sustainable seafood products across the Nordics in collaboration with Korshags Food AB.
SuperGround develops processing methods to repurpose fish and poultry side streams into protein-rich ingredients for consumer products such as burgers, nuggets, and patties. Its patented approach is designed to help food producers improve efficiency, reduce waste, and increase the protein content of their offerings.
The extension shows strong investor confidence at a time when raising capital for FoodTech has become tougher and more focused on proven performance. SuperGround’s patented processing technology enables food producers to lower costs and increase protein content by turning undervalued fish and poultry side streams into tasty, profitable products such as burgers, nuggets, and patties.
In parallel, SuperGround is launching its partnership with Sweden’s Ocean Next AB to commercialize several new seafood products across the Nordics. Ocean Next will drive commercialization with production in Falkenberg, leveraging Korshags Food AB’s expertise in premium blue food.
“Investors are looking for cost-competitive, scalable food innovations, and that’s exactly what we deliver,” said Jaakko Kaminen, CEO of SuperGround. “With Hatch Blue, CHECK24 Impact and Propeller Ventures leading this round, we are in a strong position to accelerate growth across the Nordics and beyond, starting with our new partnership with Ocean Next.”
Ocean Next is a Sweden-based subsidiary of Ocean Collective that focuses on sustainable blue food solutions. The company works with seaweed, marine ingredients, and side stream utilization, building partnerships with both research institutions and established food producers to develop and commercialize new seafood products across the Nordic market.
“Partnering with Superground, we’re turning undervalued fish parts into sustainable, tasty products,” said Jörgen Bergqvist, Group CEO of Ocean Collective and Executive Chairman of Korshags Food AB and Ocean Next AB. “With Ocean Next leading commercialization across the Nordics and Korshags driving production rooted in quality and sustainability, we aim to launch new products and change how consumers perceive blue food—without compromising taste or ocean health.”
