Florida-based data center developer EdgeMode has partnered with Swedish energy company Marviken One to integrate battery energy storage systems at its planned flagship data center campus in Marviken, Sweden.
The two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which outlines collaboration to increase grid connection capacity, unlock the next phase of large-scale AI-driven data center growth, and support the seamless integration of BESS.
The companies have stated that through the MoU, EdgeMode will work to secure strategic data center clients interested in integrating BESS assets at their sites. Marviken will provide access to its on-site BESS assets and energy management system to support the delivery of flexible power solutions.
“This collaboration underscores EdgeMode’s commitment to sustainable and resilient data center growth while supporting energy innovation in Sweden,” said Charlie Faulkner, CEO of EdgeMode. “By combining our data center expertise with access to advanced, utility-scale energy storage capabilities, we are uniquely positioned to deliver flexible, cost-effective, and resilient infrastructure solutions for our clients as they scale their AI and HPC workloads.”
The MoU will take effect immediately and is expected to remain in force for a period of three years. Funding for projects under the MoU will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
EdgeMode’s Marviken campus is currently under development. The company acquired the rights to the site in a deal with Synthesis Analytics Production in June. The $1.75 million deal saw the acquisition of a long-term lease on an in-development 20MW high-performance computing data center, and freehold ownership of approximately 20,000 square meters (215,280 sq ft) of adjacent land. The site is also tied to a 95MW renewable Power Purchase Agreement.
The facility’s first phase is expected to go live sometime this year, with an additional 75MW phase in advanced planning. According to EdgeMode, the facility could expand to 300MW within the next five years.
To support the construction of the data center, the company signed an MoU last month with AI infrastructure firm Vertical Data.
