European data center firm NorthC has extended the lease on its data center in Munich, Germany.
The company this week has extended its lease on the 4,800 square meters (51,666 sq ft) of data center space with real estate firm Allgemeine Südboden AG for 25 years.
Located on the Neue Balan campus on the edge of Munich’s Haidhausen district, the facility offers 2MW across 5,000 sqm (53,820 sq ft). NorthC took over the facility, at Balanstrasse 73, in 2022 after acquiring local provider IP Exchange from q.beyond.
Bettina Krause, head of leasing, Allgemeine Südboden: “We are delighted to extend the lease agreement with NorthC. The fact that the regional data center will remain in Neue Balan for the next quarter of a century is proof of the outstanding role the location plays, especially for companies in innovation-driven industries. Neue Balan is now one of the most sought-after commercial areas in Munich.”
NorthC was formed by DWS in 2019 from the merger of Dutch data center firms TDCG and NLDC, originally a subsidiary of Dutch telecoms company KPN. Today, the company is owned by DWS.
In recent years, NorthC has begun expanding to other European countries, buying Netrics in Switzerland and the IP Exchange in Germany. The company currently has more than a dozen data centers across the Netherlands, two in Germany, and four in Switzerland, with more in development in all three markets. It recently acquired a portfolio of assets across Europe from Colt Technology Services, including another in Munich.
Donald Badoux, managing director DACH at NorthC, added: “The Neue Balan campus offers us ideal conditions for digital growth. The mix of large and medium-sized companies, including many players from the IT and software sectors, creates exactly the innovative spirit we want for the future.
“The ideal and convenient location between Ostbahnhof, the ‘Mittlerer Ring’ ring road encircling the Munich city center, and the motorway is the icing on the cake.”
Developed in the 1950s for Siemens, the Neue Balan was once home to chip firm Infineon Technologies AG, which moved out around 2006.
