Eyes on the skies: London’s Spaceflux secures €6.1 million to scale satellite-tracking network

SpaceTech startup Spaceflux has raised €6.1 million in Seed funding to accelerate the deployment of its global telescope network and enhance its AI-powered space situational awareness (SSA) technology.

The round was co-led by the UK Innovation & Science Seed Fund (UKI2S), managed by Future Planet Capital, alongside Foresight Group and Blackfinch Ventures. The startup also received early backing through the Seraphim Space Accelerator.

Marco Rocchetto, CEO and Co-founder of Spaceflux, shared: “As space becomes increasingly essential to our economy, environment and daily lives, it is also becoming more congested and contested. This investment strengthens our ability to protect satellite technology that delivers crucial insights to Earth around the clock, reducing collision risks, and supporting a safer, more sustainable space environment for future generations.“

Founded in 2022, the company has established itself as a strategic provider of satellite tracking solutions for both government and commercial stakeholders amid growing concerns over orbital safety and debris.

Spaceflux has already secured exclusive contracts with the UK Ministry of Defence and the UK Space Agency, becoming the sole provider of geostationary satellite tracking for both institutions since 2023.

With its ground-based optical sensors capable of daylight observation – thanks to a combination of visible and Short-Wave Infrared (SWIR) imaging – the startup offers 24/7 coverage of satellites and debris in all orbital layers.

This capability significantly extends traditional night-only monitoring windows, allowing for more comprehensive and timely situational insights.

Alex Leigh, Investment Director Defence & Security at UKI2S, said: “This investment marks a significant step in the convergence of defence and space, where dual-use technologies are becoming increasingly important to UK capability. Backed by both the UK Space Agency and MOD (Defence & Security Seed – D2S), we are delighted to be leading this round as it underlines the growing importance of resilient, space-based infrastructure.”

The urgent need for such technology has become evident with reports suggesting that even a one-week disruption to satellite navigation systems could cost the UK economy as much as €8.7 billion. As congestion in Earth’s orbits intensifies, the importance of precise tracking and collision avoidance continues to grow – especially for space infrastructure vital to navigation, communications, environmental monitoring, and security.

Rubina Singh, Senior Investment Manager at Foresight Group, commented: “Spaceflux is taking on a vital role in safeguarding space assets we all rely on, such as satellites, while delivering strategically important space awareness insights for commercial and national security needs.”

The investment will be directed towards expanding Spaceflux’s proprietary global sensor infrastructure, refining its Cortex analytics platform, and enhancing service delivery for customers including satellite operators, insurers, and public agencies.

Kimberley Hay, Ventures Director at Blackfinch, added: “Spaceflux really impressed us with its collective experience and expertise in space safety. Many people don’t realise how much our everyday lives depend on space infrastructure. From navigation and communications to weather forecasting and streaming media, space plays a critical role.”
