European operator AtlasEdge has launched a new data center in Stuttgart, Germany.
The company this week announced the opening of STR001 in the Böblingen area of the city.
At full build-out, the modular site will offer 20MW across 10,000 sqm (107,640 sq ft).
The company said the site was 100 percent powered by renewable energy and is fully compliant with the German Energy Efficiency Act (Energieeffizienzgesetz).
“We’re proud to deliver a best-in-class facility that meets the growing demand for capacity in Stuttgart,” said Tesh Durvasula, CEO of AtlasEdge. “Germany, and the DACH region more broadly, is a cornerstone of our growth strategy, and this opening is another important step as we continue to invest in the next wave of European data center markets.”
AtlasEdge now operates eight data centers across Germany. The company operates one each in Berlin, Düsseldorf, and Leverkusen; two in Hamburg; and three in Stuttgart.
“This new facility directly supports businesses in and around one of Germany’s most dynamic and innovative cities,” said Georg Raiser, managing director for DACH at AtlasEdge. “Sustainability has been a core consideration throughout, fully aligned with our commitment to creating a truly sustainable digital society.”
Formed as a joint venture between telecoms company Liberty Global and digital infrastructure fund DigitalBridge in 2021, AtlasEdge operates regional data centers across Europe. Digital Realty has also invested in the company.
The deal brought together DigitalBridge’s Edge assets and Liberty Global’s real estate portfolio, with several Liberty Global operating companies acting as anchor tenants: Virgin Media in the UK, Sunrise-UPC in Switzerland, and UPC in Poland. In November 2021, Atlas acquired twelve data centers across Europe from Colt Data Centre Services (DCS) and acquired several local operators.
AtlasEdge acquired Germany’s DC1 in 2022, taking over four data centers across the country, including two in Stuttgart.
