Language AI company DeepL has deployed an Nvidia DGX SuperPOD with GB200 NVL72 systems at EcoDataCenter’s Falun, Sweden, facility.
The deployment was announced at the Nvidia GTC Paris event on June 12, with the companies claiming it is the first such deployment in Europe.
DeepL will use the GB200 NVL72 systems to train its models, noting in a LinkedIn post that the system is powerful enough that it can translate the “entire web” in 18 days, a task which would previously have taken DeepL 194 days.
The Nvidia DGX SuperPOD is a turnkey AI data center infrastructure solution. DeepL has not shared how many GB200 NVL72 systems it has deployed, but each rack has 36 Nvidia Grace CPUs and 72 Blackwell GPUs, connected via Nvidia NVLink. Multiple racks can be connected with Nvidia Quantum InfiniBand to scale up to hundreds of thousands of GB200 Superchips.
DCD has reached out to DeepL for more information about the scale of the deployment.
“At DeepL, we take pride in our unwavering commitment to research and development, which has consistently allowed us to deliver solutions that outshine our competitors. This latest deployment further cements our position as a leader in the Language AI space,” said Jarek Kutylowski, CEO and founder of DeepL.
“By equipping our research infrastructure with the latest technology, we not only enhance our existing offering but also explore exciting new products. The pace of innovation in AI is faster than ever, and integrating these advancements into our tech stack is essential for our continued growth.”
“Europe needs robust AI deployments to maintain its competitive edge, drive innovation, and address complex challenges across industries,” added Charlie Boyle, VP of DGX systems at Nvidia. “By harnessing the performance and efficiency of our latest AI infrastructure, DeepL is poised to accelerate breakthroughs in language AI and deliver transformative new experiences for users across the continent and beyond.”
EcoDataCenter was formed in 2015 as a joint venture between local energy company Falu Energi & Vatten and data center operator EcoDC AB and opened its first facility in Falun in 2019. We visited the site in 2020.
EcoDataCenter’s Falun facility is powered by 100 percent renewable energy on site and has an IT capacity of 80MW, optimized for AI and HPC workloads.
Earlier this year, EcoDataCenter divested some of its facilities in Sweden to CapMan Infra. In March, investment firm Areim raised €450 million ($480m) for its data center fund, which will be channeled into EcoDataCenter to further its expansion plans.
GPU cloud firm CoreWeave is an EcoDataCenter customer.
