US operator CyrusOne has officially announced plans for a new data center campus outside London.
The company this week announced its sixth campus in the UK, LON6. Located in Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire, the new site is set to deliver 90MW of IT capacity across 30,000 square meters (322,917 sq ft) of technical space. The campus will feature four two-story and two single-story data halls.
The development is expected to break ground in Q3 2026. With initial power due to arrive mid-2027, the first capacity is expected to be delivered in early 2028.
“This development marks an important step in our European growth journey,” said Matt Pullen, EVP and managing director, Europe, CyrusOne. “We’re thrilled to be announcing our plans for this new facility and continuing our growth in London. As demand for digital services continues to accelerate, larger facilities are necessary to provide the economies of scale that customers need, while also ensuring maximum functionality and mitigating the risk of downtime. The UK market enables us to respond to these requirements, and we look forward to continuing our expansion and supporting the Government to establish the UK as a center of excellence in digital services for technology innovation.”
The site will feature on-site photovoltaic panels, which will cover 64 percent of the site’s office energy demand. Powered from Iver Grid Supply Point, the company will use certified renewable electricity provided by SSEN.
Set into the ground and set to feature green roofs and planted walls, CyrusOne said the facility is designed to be fully integrated into the landscape.
Secretary of State for Science Peter Kyle said: “This fantastic new facility will help to power many of our online tasks, from navigating with online maps, to messaging and shopping online, and we are committed to growing this vital infrastructure and giving the UK the opportunity to thrive in the 21st century.
CyrusOne first filed to develop the Iver campus back in 2022, applying to redevelop the Shannon Group headquarters on Dromenagh Farm on Sevenhills Road. The company withdrew the plans in May 2024, refiling them in July.
After the new Labour government came to power last year, it set about relaxing restrictions on data center firms developing on Green Belt land around London. By October, CyrusOne was taking part in an announcement that four US-based companies are set to invest £6.3 billion ($8.22bn) in UK data center infrastructure, alongside CloudHQ, CoreWeave, and ServiceNow.
The company operates UK data centers west of London in Slough (LON1, 3, 4, 5) and West Drayton (LON2), totaling more than 68MW of IT capacity and 30,000 sqm (322,917 sq ft) of IT space.
LON1 and LON2 were acquired when CyrusOne took over Zenium in 2017. LON1 was launched in 2017, while LON2 was originally opened by Infinity Data Centres in 2012 before Zenium acquired the site in 2017. LON3 opened in 2020, with LON4 launching in 2022.
Nestled between existing hotspots Slough and Hayes, Iver isn’t traditionally a major development area for data centers. However, Segro and Amazon are looking to develop a data center in the south of Iver. CyrusOne’s proposed development is further north of those two projects.
