This is the second data center campus to be planned in Pori. Real estate development company CompassForge Ventures in January announced plans for a 150MW project in the Kupariteollisuuspuisto industrial area.
Nordic operator Verne has a small underground facility in Pori that was taken over as part of the acquisition of Ficolo in 2022.
Founded this year, Polarnode is led by executives previously at Finnish energy company Ilmatar, which was founded in 2011 and develops wind and solar projects. The new data center firm claims to have six projects in development totaling more than 500MW.
The company is planning a 30MW campus in the Juhansuo district of the Finnish town of Nokia, in the country’s Pirkanmaa region. The project, set on 5.5 hectares west of Tampere, is set for completion by the end of the year and could reach 100MW.
Polarnode is also planning a 40MW development in Heinola. Set on 11 hectares in the northern part of Vierumäki Business Park, the project is set to be ready for construction in early 2026.
Finally, the company is aiming to develop a 100MW data center campus on a 33-hectare site in Pajarila, a district of Lappeenranta, a city in the southeast near the Russian border. That project could reportedly eventually reach 350MW.
