Logistics real estate giant Prologis is set to expand its data center footprint into France, with multiple projects planned around Paris.
At the Choose France Summit in Versailles this week, France’s President Emmanuel Macron announced Prologis’ investment plans for France.
“The American group has decided to invest €6.4 billion to expand its logistics facilities in Marseille, Lyon, Paris, and Le Havre, and to create data centers in the Paris region,” President Macron said.
Prologis reportedly aims to develop four major data center projects in the Paris region, representing a total capacity of 584MW.
“These developments are part of Prologis’ broader European strategy, which already includes 435MW of secured capacity—including 184MW in France—with an additional 400MW targeted by the third quarter of 2025,” the French Government announcement said. “Full commissioning is planned for 2035.”
The logistics and industrial real estate giant began expanding into the data center sector during the Covid-19 pandemic. Prologis currently has 1.4GW of secured power for data centers in its pipeline, with another 1.6GW “in the advanced stages of procurement,” the company has previously said; it has another 1.5GW in the planning stage, and is targeting up to 10GW of capacity in the next ten years.
Reports from earlier this year noted the company – which to-date has been active around data centers in the US – has been eyeing developments in Europe, including three potential sites in France.
Macron also noted that Brookfield was “accelerating its commitment to France” and had confirmed plans for a €10 billion ($11.3bn), 1GW data center development in Cambrai – part of a €20 billion ($20.7bn) investment pledge first announced in February and set to be channelled through its Data4 unit.
Construction on the E-Valley in Cambrai is scheduled to begin in 2026. It will host at least 300MW of electrical capacity in the short term, with the company aiming to increase to 1GW. The company is aiming to develop three sites in total across Northern France, potentially reaching 2GW.
Macron also reaffirmed Digital Realty’s commitment to France, noting work has begun on MRS5 in Marseille – a €300 million ($339.9m) investment – while the company has also secured a building permit for the €2 billion ($2.26bn) planned Dugny campus in the Île-de-France region around Paris.
This week also saw MGX, Bpifrance, Nvidia, and Mistral AI announce plans for a 1.4GW Paris data center campus. The campus is set to ultimately reach a capacity of 1.4GW. Construction is expected to begin in the second half of 2026, with operations launching by 2028.
On the telecoms side, Macron noted Cellnex has committed to invest €2.5 billion ($2.83bn) in France by 2030 to support its network, constructing more than 5,000 new sites. The investment will begin in 2025 with €950 million ($1.07bn) for the installation of 2,000 new infrastructures hosting relay antennas serving the four mobile operators, and in the construction of its national fiber optic network. The expansion will bring the company’s telecoms portfolio to 30,000 sites operated by Cellnex in the country.
Meanwhile, Foxconn, Thales, and Radiall have entered into preliminary discussions to explore the possibility of creating an outsourced semiconductor assembly and testing facility in France. With a planned production capacity of more than 100 million System-In-Package (SIP) components per year by 2031, it could see an investment totaling more than €250 million ($283.6m).
