German startup remberg secures €15 million to expand its AI-powered maintenance platform

Munich-based software company remberg has secured €15 million in a Series A+ funding round to fuel remberg’s expansion across Europe and enhance its AI-powered maintenance platform, which helps industrial companies prevent costly unplanned machine downtime.

The round was led by Munich-based Acton Capital and London-based Oxx, with participation from existing investors Earlybird, Speedinvest, and Fly Ventures.

“We are building the leading maintenance platform in the AI era to safeguard the competitiveness of the European industrial sector,” says David Hahn, CEO and Co-founder of remberg.

remberg was launched in 2018 by David Hahn, Julian Borg, Cecil Wöbker and Hagen Schmidtchen as a spin-off of the Technical University of Munich & CDTM. The startup offers an AI-powered maintenance platform for industrial companies to prevent & solve unplanned downtime and be prepared for audits.

So far, it has reportedly raised €28 million in funding and serves more than 150 customers, including companies from the the Würth Group, SCHUNK, Brandt Zwieback-Schokoladen, Edding and Minimax Fire Solutions, which manage over 1 million assets in the solution.

Philip Edmondson-Jones, Partner Oxx adds: “remberg is fast becoming an indispensable system of record for the maintenance departments of Europe’s forward-thinking industrial companies. We’re thrilled to support their team to bring remberg’s market leading AI-capabilities across the continent.”

According to ‘The True Cost of Downtime Report 2024’ by Siemens, unplanned machine downtime costs European industrial companies an estimated €500 billion in lost revenue every year. Maintenance processes, particularly in mid-sized companies, can be inefficient, relying on outdated systems or manual workflows – as per remberg.

remberg looks to fill this gap by providing a scalable, mobile, and AI-driven maintenance platform that integrates seamlessly with the existing IT infrastructure. It optimises maintenance workflows – regardless of whether a company already has maintenance software in place. In case of an equipment malfunction, operators on the factory floor can scan a QR code and instantly access a built-in AI chat assistant via the remberg software.

The system reportedly delivers precise troubleshooting instructions based on the machine’s history and existing data – helping to resolve issues faster.

“Europe’s industrial sector needs homegrown solutions. We can’t afford to hand over this software category to the US – especially when it involves the backbone of our economy: manufacturing, industrial assets, and sensitive data. That’s where remberg comes in,” says Hahn.

According to remberg, while the US market has seen rapid adoption of digital maintenance platforms like MaintainX, Europe has yet to produce a comparable, modern, AI-powered solution.

“The AI focus, mobile accessibility, and seamless integration of remberg’s maintenance software into existing IT-systems gives industrial companies a competitive edge—especially when it comes to reducing unplanned downtime,” says remberg customer Markus Kleiner, Managing Director at H.-D. SCHUNK GmbH & Co.

With the new funding, remberg will accelerate AI-driven product development – including capabilities for predictive maintenance – and scale its sales and market presence across key regions in Europe.

Julius Lühr, Partner at Acton Capital in Munich adds: “remberg helps European industry to optimise its operations. In the current geopolitical situation, machine availability and competitive costs are more important than ever – remberg provides the digital infrastructure for this.”
