AI agent startup Convergence has agreed a deal to be acquired by Salesforce, as the software giant looks to double down on its suite of agentic workflow tools and outcompete startup and Big Tech companies alike in the booming sector.
Convergence is building an AI assistant that can automate daily workflow tasks like managing emails and scheduling meetings alongside consumer-focused applications like booking holidays and ordering groceries.
Launched last year, London-based Convergence raised a $12m seed round led by Balderton in September, with participation from Shopify and Salesforce Ventures. Revolut cofounder and CTO Vladyslav Yatsenko is also a shareholder.
Balderton made a 300% internal rate of return on the investment, partner James Wise said in a LinkedIn post, which has since been edited.
The startup was founded by alumni of Canadian AI unicorn Cohere, and built a team of hires from Google DeepMind, Meta, OpenAI and PolyAI.
Following the acquisition, Convergence’s team and technology is expected to play a central role in advancing Salesforce’s AI agent platform, Agentforce, Salesforce said in a statement.
“The next wave of customer interaction and employee productivity will be driven by highly capable AI agents that can navigate the complexities of today’s digital work,” said Adam Evans, executive vice president at Salesforce. “Convergence’s innovative approach to building adaptive, intelligent agents is incredibly impressive.”
The Convergence team will join Salesforce once the acquisition closes, which is expected in the first half of 2026.
The competition
The tech world is betting big on the prospect of AI-powered workplace tools changing how businesses operate.
On Wednesday, UK-based AI note taking app Granola announced a $43m raise, at a $250m valuation. Sweden’s Sana raised $55m in October last year, at a $500m valuation.
Tech giants like OpenAI and Anthropic both launched AI-powered workspace collaboration tools in 2024, and US workplace app Notion, which hit a $10bn valuation in 2021, also launched its own AI meeting note-taking tool on Tuesday this week.
